F.A.C.T : Brief Introduction

Post 11/26 attacks on civilians of Mumbai, millions of ordinary Indians have come together and have created hundreds of online groups with the purpose of fighting terrorism, corruption in whatever small way they can and with a goal of improved safety for the citizens and rescuing the nation the clutches of barbaric terrorists, corrupt politicians and indifferent bureaucrats.
F.A.C.T tries to unite them under one umbrella, by essentially serving as communication channel across administrators of these groups, there by helping them to channel their strength and voice in a more co-ordinated manner with more effectiveness.

Why F.A.C.T is created?

FACT is launched after the 11/26 attacks on Mumbai, India in which than 180 innocent people were killed. What happened in Mumbai is a shame for the entire humanity. Ten terrorists went on a killing spree firing at unarmed civilians one after another. They took hostages, brutally tortured them before killing. Once again the entire world watched in horror and shock the atrocities of terrorists and how a civilized society could be rendered bleeding by them.

It is now little secret as to from where the terrorists came from, where they were trained, from where instructions were passed on during the three day mayhem.

Apart from the human tragedy, several shocking facts came to the forefront:

  • Failure of intelligence agencies : Specific intelligence warnings given by both foreign intelligence agencies and domestic intelligence services were completely ignored. More shockingly none of the directly responsible officers were punished or atleast suspended. The culprits are going scot free once again under the guise of ‘collective failure’.
  • No crisis management infrastructure : Again a shocker. Even after being hit by repeated terrorists strikes across the nation, there was no crisis management infrastructure in place. It was clearly evident that there was absolutely no co-ordination between various entities involved in the entire mission. All units operated on their own and not as a single unit. The response time was too slow and lack of preparedness was visible everywhere. The police even did not have enough quality bullet proof jackets and automatic weapons, where as the supposed to be elite commandos were seen fighting without the help of any modern equipments, and the rescue operation went on for three days ensuring that all the hostages are killed.
  • Insensitive politicians : The politicians, who were till now only considered to be corrupt also showed that they are insensitive to citizens sufferings. They even went to the extent of derogating a soldier’s family, who died fighting for his fellow citizens. Some of the politicians were replaced with equally bad or even worse politicians, keeping in view of the upcoming elections and public protests.
  • Feeble international protest : US, which is supposed to be leading the world in the fight against terror, made some feeble noises of displeasure with Pakistan. People of India watched this in disbelief, wondering is this the same US that attacked Afghanistan when terrorists showed that they do not even spare the mightiest of countries or single handedly decided to disarm a dictator and save the world by attacking another nation Iraq. It is understandable that US needs help from Pakistan in fighting fundamentalists in Pakistan, but it is also important to make the people of Pakistan realize how their own government, army and other agencies along with home grown terrorists are taking their nation forward one step at a time towards self-destruction in the same way as Afghanistan. Not only the terrorist organizations there are funded by fundamentalists, but also the media is funded and run by them, giving the ordinary citizens there an impression that the entire world is hell bent on cleansing another soveriegn Islamic nation.

What does F.A.C.T do?

Public anger against terrorists, politicians and beaurocrats:
There is huge out pour of public anger to the Mumbai terrorists attacks. Millions of people across the length and breadth of the nation have taken to the streets with a single voice ‘enough is enough’. It is public’s turn to clean the system and get rid of indifferent politicians and corrupt beaurocrats and restoring the democracy in its true meaning.

Anger is just another emotion:
The problem with human emotions is, it is difficult carry on with it for longer. So even this ‘fire’ is going to calm down. Without a proper direction and leadership the public will soon return to its shell. Frustration, desperation, negative thinking, hopelessness will be back. But, this time people have turned to Internet to stay united and to keep the ‘fire’ burning. Passing on e-mails, brainstorming in online groups, they want to carry the ‘fire’ further.

Time to unite the smaller groups:
F.A.C.T ’s initial goal is to unite the administrators of these groups under a single group, helping them share information across each other, so that all of them can work together in the same direction.

F.A.C.T’s goals:

  • Provide an online group, where administrators and members of differents groups can register themselves.
  • Exchange of event details between administrators of different groups.
  • Exchange of ideas between different groups.
  • Request for help or Offer for help to take up different activities.
  • Developing a common vision and participating along with their groups.

What is “Refactor-India” movement launched by F.A.C.T:

The term ‘refactor’ is borrowed from Computer Science parlance. It means improving something that is already existing. It may include simplifying things by reducing complexities, replacing things that help improve the performance and efficiency.

No other word might better reflect the present situation ‘Refactoring-India’. It is people’s wish to get rid of things that are holding the nation back. Injecting new life into the system improving its performance, efficiency and responsiveness.
