War Against Terrorism.
American Diplomacy on Terrorism

UNFORTUNATELY, INDIA is one of the most affected countries by terrorism for the last two decades. When we minutely look into the acts of terrorism for the past two decades, we should start with terrorist activities at large in Afghanisthan, triggered by Taliban. Now the question arises as to how Taliban and its leader, Osama bin Laden have become so powerful? Who created them and for what purpose they were equipped by modern weapons of war? The answer is simple. It was the American strategy to weaken and eliminate Russian power from Afghanistan. In the long term this American diplomacy succeeded and Russian troops vacated Afghanistan but by that time a monster called Taliban whom we now call “terrorists” had taken birth. After the withdrawal of Russian troops from Afghanistan, Pakistan became the godfather of this dragon and the terrorist activities of Taliban and its related organisations started targetting India, particularly Kashmir.
Whenever terrorists went on the rampage in Kashmir and other parts of India our government requested the superpowers to help crush such activities. It’s a well known fact that Pakistan from the very beginning has been the ‘Buffer Zone’ of US military strategy against Russia in Asia. Ignoring the alarm of global terrorism, the US government never thought of reacting positively till the incident of 9\11 took place. Subsequently, after the 9\11 the US could feel the disaster and then suddenly began to act and advocate against terrorism. The interesting factor in this diplomatic game is that before 9\11, American diplomacy never appreciated the military rule in Pakistan. Rather, America was gradually cutting its financial assistance to Pakistan and putting constant pressure on Gen Musharraf to hand over political power to a democratic government.
But after 9\11 the American diplomacy changed it principles and President Bush came to Pakistan and took Gen Musharraf in his full confidence and promised to sanction aid to Pakistan. Naturally, Pakistan accommodated US military and provided all facilities to attack Afghanistan and to capture Osama bin Laden. The US as a superpower attacked and liberated Afghanistan from Taliban in no time with the help of Pakistan Army.
The story does not end here. After Afghanistan, President Bush turned his gun towards another most wanted man of his presumption ie Saddam Hussain in Iraq. American diplomacy on Iraq had an entirely different character.
Till Saddam attacked Kuwait, America was blindly supporting and giving assistance to Saddam as a friend.
But the moment the Kuwaiti oilfields were captured by Iraq Army, the US strategy changed and they declared Iraq as its enemy. Ultimately, Saddam was declared as the most dangerous terrorist of the world by President Bush.
President Bush, in his attempt to fulfill his personal whims declared war against Iraq and a defeated Saddam was hanged after a vague trial. In this unwanted war thousands of Innocent people were butchered.
After Iraq war, America is again silent on the question of terrorism. Today, America is unable to compel Pakistan to destroy terrorist camps on its soil. Why it is so? The answer is simple. Still America is the godfather of Pakistan. Hence, after 26\11 attack on Mumbai, American diplomacy is playing the role of a dramatist only. What will be the conclusion of this tragedy? Only God knows the ultimate result of the 26\11 incident in Mumbai……….
